Thanks for joining me! I’m excited that you’re here because I want to tell you all about what’s been going on with me and what’s ahead!
If you haven’t heard already, I became I licensed hair stylist and manicurist in 2014! (Yay!)
I graduated from the Academy of Gene Juarez here in Seattle, Washington and since then I’ve been continuing my own education while working in different types of salons. My goal has always been to learn enough about the industry to open my own small salon in order to address some of the needs in the community that are currently lacking.
First, I worked in a children’s salon where I learned the importance of listening to not only the parent, but the child. I’m excited to announce that future plans for my salon will be “Sensory Friendly”, inviting children who are sometimes uncomfortable or intimidated, to take their time and be comfortable in their surroundings, in order to complete the haircut service. My son, Quincy, is 8 this year, and has been diagnosed with Autism since he was 3. Being around my son and his friends, including our community and similar families in my situation, I have always longed to create a space where he and those like him can feel welcome and included.
Second, I worked in a busy men’s salon in order to gain more knowledge and understanding on how to perfect my barbering skills. I am happy to say that I will be offering a full range of mens services that are priced inclusively, as my salon will not differentiate service prices by gender. This provides a fairer pricing system and the removal of archaic insistence that it’s somehow more difficult to cut someones hair based on their gender. Hurray!
Third, I worked in a general salon, for kids, men, women and the elderly. It was important to me to work in a fast paced high volume salon in order to perfect my skills and better my timing. I was able to understand business practices and chart hair trends based around certain factors such as holidays or weather patterns. Back to school can be a very busy time of year!
Lastly, I’ve spent the last year collecting information, trying out product lines, and learning all I can in order to provide my future clients with the best opportunity for maintaining healthy hair during all services, especially coloring and blonding services. Leaving someones hair in better condition than they’ve brought it to me in, is an absolute must. In addition, for the last 7 months, I’ve been providing haircuts, colors and more, free of charge to my local community for the last year in order to give back, and help others feel confident along their journey.
All of these experiences have led up to this moment. I am finally ready to open my own doors…but I need your help.
As many of you know, starting a small business is never easy, and starting a salon is even more challenging due to the need for furniture, backstock and space. In the last year I have managed to put all of my own leftover time, energy and money into converting my home office into a small salon to serve the community here in Auburn, Washington and beyond.
My hope for this space is that it will invite families and individuals who are seeking a relaxed environment, where they can feel comfortable and welcome, and that we can foster these relationships for years to come. In addition, I would like to be able to share my space with educators and product specialists who are in need of small, personal space in which to share their knowledge.
I am almost complete in my work, but I need a few things in order to really bring it all together!
Donations for this fund will be used to complete the rest of the plumbing and the wall construction so that we may open for business as soon as possible! Additionally, funding will be used to procure tools, chairs, and first aid items. A list is included in this GoFundMe that itemizes the things that are left to complete. I will be posting pictures as the project is being completed. I invite anyone who has questions to please feel free to message me or comment any time!
Those who are willing to donate are also going to receive some very cool benefits!
First, anyone who donates, anything, will be mailed some amazing samples, free of charge! There are some great products I’d love to share with all of you and I look forward to customizing your sample pack!
In addition, anyone who makes a substantial donation locally will receive a punch card for 1 free haircut a month for a year.
Those who make large donations but live out of state will receive a kit of hair products picked by me specifically for you, mailed, free of charge.
I also have a link to an Amazon list online where items can be purchased directly for anyone who wishes to donate items instead of funds. Salon Amazon List
