There is always hope in this world and being able to write to an audience of caring folk proves this. My name is Wali Shakur. I dub myself as the Universal Healthcare Angel, simply because I believe everyone has a right to healthcare. This is not something new, but it’s certainly a hot potato in American politics. But I have seen other countries execute universal single payor healthcare with measurable success. The system in the USA needs an overhaul badly. It’s design and structures have detrimental consequences that leads to unnecessary recurring illnesses even death of the patients and burn out of the healthcare staff, particularly nurses.
The 25+ years’ experience as a registered nurse, covering a wide range of subspecialties and the life perception in general, has helped me better understand why my natural love for caring for the less fortunate has been a deeply subconscious thing, and has convinced me to continue to be “outside the box” the USA’s present healthcare system and reach for the world of alternative, complementary and integrative treatment modalities, so as to better care for those in need. It’s called inclusiveness.
That said, I’ve been struggling my healthcare business (in the startup phase), as my personal income is generally dedicated to my household bills (and four children) and my savings has run low. The phase has gained momentum, but I need money for my website developer, marketing specialist, cinemaphotographer and CPA bill. These add up to about $3,000. My organization is named Sacred Heart Homes, LLC. It’s a 501(c)4 nonprofit organization, whose mission is to provide housing and holistic healthcare services for our most vulnerable citizens. According to a consensus of the public, World Health Organization and the US Department of Health and Human Services and several other operations, these are deemed to be the mentally challenged (intellectually delayed), physically challenged, elderly/senior, the foster children, the domestic survivor, the sobriety seeker and the second chancer-7 service lines in all. My approach to providing care for those individuals, in a group home provides sensitive, personal, patient-centered, holistic care, on a small scale allowing much more control and management of patients and their needs, as opposed to stock piling patients in large nursing home facilities where individuals can go for hours without getting any attention. Our model home will be equipped with commercial kitchens, daily freshly cooked meals, all the services you get in large facilities (i.e., PT, OT, LSW, etc.), plus more.
