Good day! My name is Gabrielle and I am an online English as a Second/Foreign Language (ESL/EFL) teacher. However, over the last year and a half, I have been struggling financially in this profession. Usually, teachers in this field work as independent contractors which means that we are only paid for the amount of hours we complete. Unfortunately, even though I am otherwise very happy with the platform I have been working for, for an extended period of time they haven’t had many classes available for their teachers, which means that my income has been severely reduced. For the last year, I had been applying to many other online teaching platforms, and have even applied to other types of jobs in my home country, but I haven’t had any luck with anything as yet.
I am also married, but my husband lost his previous job and has been having the same difficulty as myself in finding a new job, despite his very good qualifications. It is for this reason that we are trying to develop our own business, so that we won’t need to depend on others to hire us to be able to cover our expenses. We also discovered about 2 weeks ago that we are expecting our first child, and so we feel that it is even more urgent that we get our finances together, move out of our parents’ basement, and learn to stand on our own 2 feet as soon-to-be new parents.
I started studying online business models about 2 months ago and I realized that this is a business model that fits well with my dream for my future as a mother. I would love to assist my husband financially, but also be available at home to nurture and raise my children to be good and productive human beings. However, I do need more education and mentorship on this topic, but currently am not able to cover those costs. There are 2 more courses that I would like to study and there are several tools that I would need to invest in to be able to do the work necessary to build the business.
