$2000 minimum needed
We will be forced to shut down a 25 year running business due to not being able to pay rent. For a long time, rent has been taking every penny we earn at the shop where I work and we cannot invest back into it. The business owner is one more rent payment away from not being able to cover the lack anymore. We sometimes don’t even have the tools or supplies we need because we run out and can’t spare anything. We cannot advertise. We cannot buy new tools to be able to offer more services.
I’ve been homeless for years now and this place restored my sense of belonging in the community. I will and have put my all into it. In addition to myself and my boss, the business owner, we have three other interns, a group of artists setting up a display to sell their art, and 3 other people who are friends of the shop and benefit from its existence. I have spent nearly every day here for almost a year, running it daily and trying to push past the brick wall that is merely breaking even. We NEED actual money to pay for tools, supplies, advertising, to pay back a couple of the interns who gifted some money just to cover things, and to catch up on rent.
I KNOW we all have many skills to tap into and have devoted myself to making it happen for all these people involved here. I want to continue because this place is for many people a beacon of hope and/or community. One of our interns is bi, living with strict, extremely controlling, religious parents . One of our interns is partially blind and a ravenous learner when it comes to computers. One of our interns is trans, with aspergers, and is 7 years into her electrical engineering/computer science degree, and passionate about vintage computers. One of our friends of the shop is poor, but hardworking and currently working for a restaurant for chicken as payment. Another friend of the shop is a phone collector who takes every opportunity to help those around her, and has helped multiple people with phones as well.
This shop means something and isn’t just some humdrum business looking for a profit, dammit. We’re looking for community and life changing things. We’re capable and simply need a financial boost so we can make things happen for ourselves and others in the future.
