Preparing for the civilian life after 16 years in the Navy

In 2008 I began my dream career to become a chef but it didn’t go as planned, school was expensive and finding a job was almost impossible for a college drop out. I began working laborious jobs like construction, landscaping, restaurants and cleaning, but no employer paid me fairly because they thought I was not a US Citizen. Working  12-18 hour days I looked for a change in my life so i enlisted in the Navy. Moved from California to my first duty station in Virginia then deployed to Afghanistan, got injured and recovered and deployed five times to Iraq the injuries just returned with a vengeance. Currently the the Department of Defense/Navy is going to medically separate me so I sold all my stuff and bought a sprinter van. But, everything to make it comfortably livable is so expensive I’m reaching out for help, all i have inside is a sleeping bag and some clothes.

I am embarrassed to ask for help but i have no other choice. I’m looking to get insulation, a heater, roof rack, water tank, and other essential things to be able to support myself safely inside.

My goal is to raise $15,000 to build it and also have some saved up for when the time comes for separation.
