A few months ago, I adopted a sweet little American Bulldog/ Pitbull mix from a local shelter. I did not intend on adopting another dog whatsoever, as I already have two German Shepherds. I decided to go to our local Animal Control just to look, and I fell in love with a sweet faced pup. His name was Lyon and he has the brightest hazel eyes I’d ever seen. I knew he was the one.
Little did I know, he was picked up behind a Food Lion grocery store- hence his name, Lyon. He also had a brother that was adopted the day he was put up on the website. Lyon was continuously overlooked because he had a slight limp. This didn’t bother me at all and I knew it was my duty to give this puppy the life he deserved. Once I completed his paperwork, I found out he was going to be euthanized just two days later because of his injury and the fact that he was a pitbull mix. He came home with us, and got a new name. He is now Gunner and the spunkiest little dog.
Unfortunately his limp got much worse in the following week. I took him to the vet to try to find a cause. After some xrays, we now know that his femur head is shattered. This had to be caused by blunt force from abuse, being hit by a car, or something similar. It will not heal on his own and he will not be able to comfortably walk without a Femoral Head Ostectomy. I am saving every penny I can for this surgery, but $1600 is a lot for a full time college student with a part time job to save. I want my puppy to be able to play and keep up with his brothers and not have to be in pain. Every single dollar will help and I will be more than grateful for even the smallest donations. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
