Hello from me and my 3-year-old baby son, Popcorn.
Popcorn is a very sweet and gentle baby boy, no matter how scared he is, he will never harm me or my family members on purpose.
I adopted him back in Sept 2021 although the adoption process wasn’t easy at all.
Before he came over to my house, he was down with diarrhea and really suffered a lot before he came over.
A little backstory on my son:
He was abandoned and was seen hiding on a high-rise edge. A few days before coming to my house, he was down with diarrhea yet again. (he was already down with diarrhea before the adoption period) That was his second time down with diarrhea and the foster said that she’ll bring him over to me after he has recovered.
A few weeks later, I finally get to meet this baby and everything went well.
After that, is the start of my financial struggle.
A few weeks after he came over, he was down with diarrhea again, at my home.
As I am a new cat owner, I was worried sick as I wasn’t sure how I could help him.
After contacting the foster, she advised me to bring my baby son to the vet and that is exactly what I did.
What happened at the vet truly shocked me. As you saw in the intro, Popcorn is supposed to be a 3-year-old furbaby, at least according to the foster. However, the vet told me that his age can range from 3 years old, to 7 years old. For us humans, 3 years and 7 years ain’t that much of a difference however for cats, it meant a lot. Firstly, health complications. The vet said that age might be one of the factors why Popcorn is taking quite some time to recover from the sickness. Although it really depends, most importantly, the vet said that the older the cat, the more vulnerable they are to diseases which deeply worries me.
After the consultation and tests, I spend a total of $2,500 on everything including 6 months worth of wet food (change of diet), medications, and various tests and consultations. Back then, I had no issue paying the large amount as I was still working.
Recently, my baby son has been acting really weird, he has been coughing (does not seem like a hairball situation) and the foster told me that it might be asthma. That information itself really worries me as currently I am not working due to family complications. And I am unable to pay for his tests and bills.
Background on my finance status:
I was working for the frontlines last year and my contract ended thus I stopped working (also because of family complications)
On top of all the cat necessities that I have to buy monthly, (wet & dry food, litter, treats, supplements, toothpaste, grooming items, etc) I have to pay for insurance and electricity bills for my family.
Do note: my parents & family do not support or provide any financial support for my baby furball meaning I pay for everything myself while paying stuff for them.
If I were to add everything up together, I need to fork out ~$650 per month and that may sound a little cheap to some people, but it really isn’t a small amount for me.
I have been super stressed for the past few weeks as there is nothing I can do although I keep trying. Every time my baby son starts to cough and curl up, my heart really aches for him as I really really want to help him but I am critical myself too…
May the kind souls out there provide some peace for my baby furball, thank you for your time.
