Hello, this is ‘Mima’, a 7 to 8 year old cat that “lives” in several houses around here, although she stays mostly in my elderly aunt’s house, so she’s technically her cat. As you can see, she’s currently pregnant, something very dangerous for a cat her age. There has been a complication, and it seems she won’t have an easy partum, if any at all.
As of now she hasn’t eaten decently or drank much water for the last few days, and she seems to be in abdominal pain. There seems to be some brown discharge in the birth area, but it’s very little and it seems dry. It wasn’t until last night when I finally managed to feed her a little raw meat. Her voice is “hoarse” as it sounds different when purring (she still purrs when petted, somewhat faintly) and when she growls at a different cat (A home cat at another house, she always growls at him) the sound being like it gets stuck on her throat and doesn’t fully comes out.
We live in Venezuela, a country in a great economic crisis, and most things are dolarized, at least unnoficially. My aunt doesn’t have a solid source of income, and she can’t afford the veterinary, which would be a minimum of 20 USD for the consult, but it would surelly ascend to far more for any treatment, medicine and, hopefully, posterior spaying to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
I don’t want to give a ceiling or a specific goal in this post. I believe that anything you could offer would surely help, if not at covering the vet costs, then at least it will help convincing family members and neighbours to collaborate also. If only a handful of people donated something each it would surely do an inmense good to this situation.
She’s my aunt’s baby. For years my aunt took care of our near centenarian grandmother (Her mother) with alzheimer’s. It was a battle that lasted for years that heavily taxed my aunt physically and mentally. While family members helped and contributed, she took the brunt of it, as she lived with her pretty much alone, until my grandmother passed away in October 2020 from natural causes. During that time Mima was her companion, cuddling with her, acting spoiled, making her laugh by stealing the neighbour’s food, and infuriating her by making a mess at the worst moments.
We know we’ve been negligent in her care, as she wasn’t spayed before. Condemn us If you want, but, If you can afford it, please help her. Anything will help.

Some background: For the past few weeks she has shown a considerable belly, and was expected to give birth soon. She wasn’t seen on Friday, which isn’t something rare for her, as there is a closed alleyway that pretty much divides the whole block, in which she is pretty hard to find. The problem started at saturday when she finally appeared, still pregnant, but seemingly ill.
There was a little brown discharge around the birth area, but not very much, and hasn’t increased since. She didn’t eat, rejecting food and dry heaving occasionally, although she does drink water. She was also lethargic, not moving around very much, and doing so slowly. Despite that, she is missing again, leaving the place she was during the night and being seen last this morning.
Sadly, vets are expensive around these parts, with our economy as it is. So not many neighbours around here are inclined to help cover the costs of a vet, specially since, while many neighbours feed her occasionally so she hunts their mice, she also has a reputation for stealing food and damaging furniture. As for me, I haven’t earned any income since I started my college semester months ago, and as of now I only have the equivalent of five USD to my name, which is not nearly enough.
We’ve been trying to get family and friends to help, but it’s been slow. So any help would be inmensely appreciated. Thanks.
